The Rotary Centre for the Arts (RCA) will be launching a new series of free community art programs for youth, teens and families.
Summer of Arts will run from Tuesday to Saturdays, from July 7 to Aug. 28.
The program will provide participants an opportunity to immerse themselves in a wide variety of art forms, including visual arts, textile arts, DJing, circus arts, street dance, and more.
Colleen Fitzpatrick, executive director of the RCA, says the program aims to inspire artistic expression, nurture creativity, and provide a platform for personal growth and development.
"We are incredibly grateful to be able to provide these new free youth and family programs to our community," says Fitzpatrick.
"By offering these accessible and cost-free programs, we are removing barriers and ensuring that all young individuals, regardless of their socio-economic background, have the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop new skills, and experience the joy of artistic expression.”
Youth aged 11-15 will be able to take part in visual arts classes, which encompass painting, drawing, watercolour, printmaking, and other visual arts techniques.
DJing and clothing customization sessions introduce the world of DJing while also getting a chance to personalize their shoes, clothes, bags, skateboards, and more.
Textile courses will focus on sewing, altering, tailoring, knitting, weaving and more.
Youth aged 13 and up can also sign up for hip-hop dance classes or take part in a puppet craft workshop.
Summer of Arts also presents three-day intensive classes tailored for participants aged 13-16. These workshops will provide an in-depth exploration of specific art forms and wrap up with a showcase of the participants' work.
On behalf of the team at RCA, Fitzpatrick thanked the Sedin Family Foundation for their generous donation, which has made it possible to bring Summer of Arts to the community.
