Kelowna's brain injury conference set to return this spring

The Pushor Mitchell LLP West Coast Brain Injury Conference (WCBIC) is set to return to Kelowna at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on June 14.

BrainTrust Canada, a local non-profit organization, has organized the conference since 1993, with last year’s conference bringing in over 200 attendees.

“Most people don’t realize that brain injury is actually a root cause of many of the issues that affect our community every day,” says Amanda McFarlane, the executive director of BrainTrust Canada.

“A lack of oxygen to the brain for even a few minutes may cause anoxic brain injury, and, unfortunately, this is the case for many people in our community who experience opioid overdose.”

This year’s theme is ‘A Synthesis of Systems: Working Together to Fill the Gaps,’ with a focus on the brain and behaviour in the context of current social issues, community connection and systems change.

The speaker lineup will be announced next week, with experts from across Canada coming to speak about harm reduction, misdiagnosis, disability justice and more.

“We have a number of sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities available for anyone wishing to join us for this important and innovative community event,” McFarlane adds.

BrainTrust Canada provides education, advocacy and rehabilitation support services in the North and Central Okanagan.

More information about the conference can be found here.
