Kelowna's street market, Light Up event will cause temporary road closures today

Downtown Kelowna is set to light up with festive Christmas lights and decorations on Saturday.

To make way for the annual winter market and Light Up events, residents can expect to see a few road closures in place.

The actual event will run from 11 am until 6 pm with the tree light up happening at 5:30 pm.

Starting at 5:30 am, Water Street between Queensway and Doyle Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic and will remain closed until about 8:30 pm.

The roundabouts at Queensway and Doyle Avenue, however, will remain open throughout the day.

In addition, the first bay of the city hall parking lot, directly adjacent to Water Street, will also be blocked off for the duration of the event.

If you are driving to the downtown area to check out the event, some parking will be available in the library Plaza Parkade, the memorial parkade and Chapman Parkade. Live, up-to-date availability is available here.

The event is sure to be a blast with skating, live entertainment, food vendors and over 40 local vendors set up along Water Street.

Pictures with Santa is being hosted by the Downtown Kelowna Association.

There will also be hot chocolate available by donation with proceeds going to the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
