UPDATE: Large hedge fire in Kelowna put out with limited damage to homes

(UPDATE: June 10 @ 6:30 pm) - The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) was able to limit damage to buildings in the vicinity of a large hedge fire near Chances Casino this afternoon.

Calls about the blaze came in around 4 pm and the KFD dispatched three engines, a rescue truck, a command vehicle and 15 personnel.

First-arriving crews reported heavy smoke between townhouse complexes on Burtch Road, with exposure to a shed and the exterior of multiple townhouses.

The blaze was quickly knocked down and any damage was limited to the exterior of the homes, as well as a garage. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it's not suspected to be suspicious in nature.

(UPDATE: June 10 @ 4:25 pm) – Kelowna firefighting crews are on site of a fire that broke Monday afternoon at a townhouse building at the corner of Springfield Road and Burtch Road.

At least three engines could be seen responding alongside an incident command vehicle.

A large plume of smoke that was visible from across the Capri-Landmark area is now barely noticeable.

It appears that several cedar hedges at the back of the townhouse complex caught fire.

KelownaNow has reached out to the Kelowna Fire Department for more information and will update this story when more information is issued.
