After 10 years in the position, Kevin Kaardal will be leaving his post as the superintendent of Central Okanagan Public Schools (SD23) later this year.
This morning, SD23 announced that his replacement will be Jon Rever, the current acting deputy superintendent, who will bring 33 years of teaching and administration experience to the position.
Rever got his start in teaching in Powell River in the early 1990s and made the move to Kelowna in September 1992.
He was a teacher for half a decade, then a vice principal for four years before becoming the principal at Dr. Knox Middle School in Glenmore.
In 2004, Rever shifted to a role with the School District and has been climbing the SD23 ladder ever since.

"Jon's unwavering commitment to public education perfectly aligns with the Board of Education's Strategic Plan and our vision of Together We Learn," said Board of Education Chair Julia Fraser.
"With his deep understanding of our diverse learning communities, the Board is confident that Central Okanagan students and staff will continue to thrive with his leadership, fostering innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in education."
Fraser also extended her gratitude on behalf of the Board to Kaardal, who has overseen notable advancements in educational programs and student achievements during his decade as superintendent.
"The Board thanks Kevin Kaardal for his decade of service to SD23," said Fraser. "Kevin's transformative leadership leaves a legacy of progressive improvement that Jon Rever will surely continue to foster."
While the Board eventually decided to promote from within, the search process to fill the spot included candidates from across Canada.
Rever will officially take over the superintendent role from Kaardal on July 1, 2025.
