Okanagan College theatre group takes on ‘most ambitious’ production to date with Murder on the Orient Express

Agatha Christie’s timeless tale, Murder on the Orient Express, is set to come to life at Okanagan College (OC) this spring.

The college theatre group, the Red Dot Players, will be delving into “mystery and intrigue” with the classic story starring the famed detective Hercule Poirot. Christie's novel was adapted for the stage by Tony-nominated playwright, Ken Ludwig.

According to director Jeremy Beaulne, an English professor at OC, he was drawn to the play after binge-watching the Poirot television series during the pandemic.

“Hercule Poirot is a fascinating character,” says Beaulne. “He specializes in solving impossible crimes, in creating order out of chaos, but sometimes he encounters crimes that challenge his morality as much as they challenge his intellect.”

The production features a cast of 13 authentic period costumes, and a recreation of the sumptuous Art Deco interior of the Orient Express.

“This is one of our most ambitious productions to date,” says Beaulne. “Everyone in the cast and crew has been working extremely hard to make it a success, and I’m thrilled with what we have achieved so far.”

Performances will take place at the Okanagan College Theatre (Room S104, 1000 KLO Road) on March 14-17 at 7 pm, as well as on March 23rd at 2pm and on the 24th at 7 pm.

Advance tickets for Murder on the Orient Express are available here. Tickets will also be available at the door.
