Kelowna-based Callahan Property Group Ltd. has submitted a development permit application for the second phase of a commercial development in The Ponds neighbourhood.
The application was submitted on Friday and the applicant says this next phase will continue to build out the Upper Mission neighbourhood's village centre.
In August 2022, Kelowna council gave the green light to the first phase of development, which was proposed for 1090 Frost Road.
The second phase is being proposed for 988 Frost Road.
According to the application, this phase will be about 3.4 acres in size and is located east of the first phase.
The five buildings included in this phase will be smaller retail stores and restaurants.
“The site is designated as a village centre and as such is designed to serve the immediate surrounding area, providing basic day to day services for the area and serves as a hub of activity for the surrounding community,” says the report.
“The site plan offers a number of public spaces and plazas that provide a community amenity, creating small activity hubs and allows residents to travel shorter distances for day-to-day errands.”
Similar to the first phase, the developers are looking to incorporate wood trestle elements that are a nod to the train trestles in east Kelowna.
This proposal has yet to be circulated around city hall. Planning staff may require additional information before this application is forwarded to council for more consideration.
