New plans for the property west of the Ramada hotel have been submitted at Kelowna city hall.
On Mar. 27, a development company called Aspen Lands Advisory submitted a subdivision application for 2170 Harvey Avenue.
According to the city’s website, the developer wants to subdivide and create a separate property for a new Marriott Town Place Suite in the parking space located west of the Ramada hotel.
“The ‘hotel’ will be designed with compact suites tailored to accommodate the demand for short term rentals in Kelowna,” the application says.
KelownaNow reached out to the city and the developer for more details late last week but have yet to hear back.
Changes to the Ramada date back to 2022
Plans for an expansion of the Ramada were submitted at city hall in February 2022, including a new six-storey building with 160 rooms and 169 parking spaces.
However, those plans no longer show up on the city’s development webpage and it is unclear if that redevelopment will still happen in the future.
A year later, in February 2023 Ramada was listed for sale with an asking price of $32 million.
By July the 135-room hotel had sold for an undisclosed amount to Vernon businessman Gurjit Jhajj.
Jhajj's Durali Properties also owns Sunset Ranch Golf Course near Kelowna airport and several Subway franchises in the Okanagan.
Earlier in 2023, he had purchased Tower Ranch Golf Course, also for an undisclosed amount.
