A Pomeranian was killed and its owner hurt after an attack by two “large” bull terriers in Lake Country, police have revealed.
The incident occurred near Lodge Road and Bottom Wood Lake Road on the evening of March 8.
Mounties said in a news release that the owner of the bull terriers “was unable to control his animals” when they attacked the smaller dog.
“The owner of the Pomeranian attempted to protect her dog and was bit as well,” the release explains. “Officers and the owners were able to separate the dogs.
“The Pomeranian was taken to a nearby vet office where it received emergency care but was too injured to survive the attack.”
Police said the owner of the slain pooch also needed medical attention for her injuries.
The owner of the bull terriers, meanwhile, took his pets home.
On March 13, bylaw officers and Mounties searched the man’s home and seized the dogs.
The owner was ticketed, police said, and to get his dogs back he must “agree to a number of rules and conditions that will hopefully keep the public and their animals safe.”
