UPDATE: 1 person detained, numerous taken to hospital after Rutland Road crashes

(UPDATE: Feb. 12 @ 9:45 am): One person has been detained and an unknown number of people taken to hospital following a crash in Rutland this morning.

Kelowna RCMP told KelownaNow the crash scene is "very large" and an investigation is already underway.

The injuries of those taken to hospital are "not known at this time," police added.

They said they detained an individual as part of their investigation, but provided no further details.

(Original story: Feb. 12 @ 7:43 am): Rutland Road has been closed in both directions due to multiple vehicle collisions.

Police said it will remain shut from Leathead Road to Hartman Road “for an undetermined amount of time.”

Few details have been released, but Mounties said they are dealing with a “very fluid scene” and more road closures could occur.

They urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.

“For parents needing to drop their children off at Rutland Middle or Senior Schools, [they] can use Dodd Road as an alternative,” police explained.

“Emergency vehicles are on scene and the road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.”
