With high temperatures predicted in this weekend’s forecast, the hunt for ways to cool down in Kelowna is on. After having limited options since May due to the flooding, Kelowna residents and tourists got creative with their cooling methods, but now things are about to change.
Thanks to the decrease in lake levels and quick work shown by cleanup crews, a number of city beaches and water parks will reopen just in time for the heat wave.
Looking to lay on the hot sand and get your tan on in between dips in the lake? Luckily for you, some of Kelowna’s ideal beaches are opening for business!
Other beaches opening this weekend will include Boyce-Gyro Beach Park, Sarsons Beach Park and Cedar Creek Park.
If you have little ones who are eager to soak up the sun this weekend, keep them busy and having fun at select water parks throughout the city.
The Ben Lee water park on 900 Houghton Road opens this weekend with extended hours. Quilchena Splash Park on 347 Quilchena Drive is also opening this weekend.
It's been weeks of anticipation, anxiously waiting for the day when you can kick off your summer by having a nice float along Okanagan Lake with your friends.
Cook Road Boat Launch and Cedar Creek Park will both be open fully though, Cedar Creek is best suited to small boats. While Water Street Boat Launch will only have one lane ready to use.
If you are hitting the lake this weekend be sure to practice respectful boating as lake levels are still higher than usual. Keep an eye out for low and no wake zones, and try to keep to the middle of the lake. For a detailed map of wake zones, visit the CORD Emergency website.
If you’re planning to take a stroll along the boardwalk, pedestrians and cyclists now have access to the tunnel under Bennett Bridge. City Park will also return to regular hours, now closing at 11 p.m. and the lighting along the promenade will be on by Friday night.
