The transport truck that crashed into a Kelowna townhouse on April 11 will finally be removed within the next two weeks, but the home will be uninhabitable for up to a year.
On Tuesday, an assessment was performed at the Gordon Drive and Cameron Road location by structural engineers and the strata insurance company, who told homeowner Samer Shehadeh that the extensive damage will take eight to 12 months to repair.
Shehadeh’s family is currently staying in an Airbnb, but he said he's unsure if they will move back in or sell the home.
“It all depends on what the City does,” he explained.
“If the City and strata come together and they redo that corner with big rocks or boulders or something to protect it from cars hitting it again, then maybe we’ll feel more safe moving back in.”
To rebuild after the crash, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Shehadeh family manage the costs not covered by insurance.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined.
