- Kelowna Votes
Departing Kelowna City Councillor Ryan Donn was always a dedicated advocate for the arts community, so his departure is seen as a loss for people like Noel Wentworth.
That's why the accomplished singer, songwriter and educator Noel Wentworth is looking at a political career of his own.
"I know that Ryan Donn is leaving council, and I'm hoping to take his place," he said.
Wentworth is a member of the Wentworth Music family.
For years he was a music teacher and vice president of education and media at Wentworth, but he's left that position and hoping to take on a new role on Kelowna's city council.
"This is sort of a natural calling for me," said Wentworth, "considering the amount of activity I've been involved with in the past."
Much of his community activity has been in fundraising.
"I've raised over $270 thousand for the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation," he said. "I've been a part of the MS walks, and Hike for Hospice."
But politics are new.
He's not approaching council with the idea of shaking things up, but rather just adding a voice.
He admits he enters the political fray without much of a war chest.
"There is no fundraising happening currently," he said.
"I know the whole campaign is going to cost money, but we'll figure it out."
Wentworth said he plans to knock on a lot of doors.
