Baseball players in Peachland are receiving a gift from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Turner Park in Peachland was announced as one of the 15 community baseball diamonds across Canada to receive a grant from the Jays Care foundation to make field upgrades.
$1.5 million will be split between the recipients across eight provinces and one territory and the money will be used to “Build, enhance, or refurbish community baseball diamonds.”
“Through the building of these baseball diamonds, youth will have the opportunity to form lasting relationships and a sense of belonging, learn valuable life-skills from positive role models, and grow through the power of sport and play,” said Robert Witchel, executive director, Jays Care Foundation.
For the past 10 years the Field of Dreams program has invested $15 million in 163 different fields across the country.
The park was temporarily closed effective April 27 to begin upgrades to the park's irrigation system, ball diamond and field.
