BC United members have spoken and Pavneet Singh will represent the party in the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream riding for the 2024 provincial election.
Formally known as the BC Liberal Party, BC United held its candidate selection event on Saturday at the Best Western on Hwy 97 in Kelowna.
Members cast ballots of which of the four nominees they wanted to run as the Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream BC United candidate.
The four candidate hopefuls included Binny Boparai, of Farming Karma Fruit beverage company, lawyer Bal Grewal, North Okanagan Regional District Vice Chair Amanda Shatzko and business owner Pavneet Singh.
More than 50% of BC United members in the riding participated in the selection process.
“BC United would like to thank Binny Boparai, Bal Grewal and Amanda Shatzko for their participation in the nomination contest,” reads a BC United news release.
“It takes a great deal of confidence and dedication to put forward one's name for public office and their willingness to do so is truly commendable.”
When interviewed by KelownaNow last month, Singh said he wants to advocate for a new Rutland Middle School and more action on crime and open drug use.
"There are people outside taking their drugs on the streets and shooting their needles in their arms in front of the kids," said Singh in an Oct. 30, 2023 interview.
Now the next step for Singh is to prepare for the 2024 provincial election.
