A new vegan spot has opened its doors not far from Kelowna, and will be there to satisfy your sans-dairy cravings.
The Salty Caramel Kitchen made Lake Country their home not long ago, and they seem to be settling in well.
Brittany Friedrich-Matheson and her mother Nicole Marsh opened the business together after deciding it was just what the community needed. As vegans themselves, they were able to make delicious healthy foods that aren’t available at your typical bakery or restaurant.
The mother daughter team have had their new venture open for seven weeks now, and they say business is better than they could have ever imagined.
“A lot of people come in and they don’t know that it’s vegan but they come try it and they’re really pleasantly surprised,” says Friedrich-Matheson.
They say that most of their customers aren’t vegan, and are just curious to sample their menu.
“Even if you’re not vegan, you should give us a try,” they said.
Located across from Pebble Beach, they’ve got a patio for customers to enjoy the scenery, when the smoke clears up that is.
The two started out making cakes at home, but eventually they decided “why not open a fully vegan restaurant.”
This morning was the first day they started serving vegan brunch. Available every Sunday morning, they’ll have waffles, pancakes, hash browns, and bennys.
They’ve had a warm welcome from both the locals and the vegan community in the Okanagan.
They have good friends at Kelowna’s own Naked Cafe who have helped them along the way with setting up the business.
The Salty Caramel Kitchen is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., located at 11407 Okanagan Centre rd. West.
