Shooting in Prince George RCMP detachment prompts investigation from IIO

A shooting in the Prince George RCMP’s detachment cells has been forwarded to the BC Independent Investigation Office (BC IIO).

The incident happened early Monday morning when officers brought in a man following a theft report.

Frontline officers responded to the area of 15th Avenue and Victoria Street.

They were able to successfully locate the suspect a short distance away.

However, the man was allegedly in possession of a firearm and wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant.

While being booked at the detachment, a physical altercation took place and bear spray was discharged.

An officer also discharged their firearm.

One officer received minor injuries and the suspect was injured during the altercation.

No details have been released about the extent of his injuries, except that he received medical attention.

The IIO has been notified of the incident. At this time, the investigation is active and ongoing so no further details will be provided until it has been completed.
