West Vancouver Dad Facing Charges Following Assault at Minor Hockey Game

West Vancouver parents are the latest group in BC to get involved in a hockey related dispute at a minor hockey game.

West Vancouver Police were called to the game on Saturday evening after reports of a fight in the viewing area of the arena. To men watching the game became physical when one of the men grabbed the other one. At the time a Bantam A1 hockey playoff game was being played.

Other spectators attempted to break up the fight but police were eventually called to help. No serious injuries were reported, but the alleged victim, a 67-year-old Langley man suffered minor bruising and soreness. West Vancouver Police will recommend a charge of assault against a 45-year-old West Vancouver man.

He has been released from custody on a promise to appear for court on May 6th, 2015.The incident took place while the 13 and 14 year olds from the Hollyburn Huskies AA bantam team were facing Semiahmoo.

This incident is just the latest to involve parents at minor hockey games in the province. Officials on Vancouver Island have been dealing with abusive parents who have been taunting players and referees. Recently five parents were banned from games for the verbal abuse.
