Rebates of up to $1,400 on e-bike purchases now available to BC residents

British Columbians looking to purchase an e-bike are now eligible for rebates.

Starting today, income-based rebates on the purchase of approved e-bikes are available to residents over the age of 19.

Anyone with a net income of less than $38,950 can get a $1,400 rebate, while those with a net income of more than $51,130 will still get $300.

Everyone whose net income falls in between those two numbers will be eligible for a $1,000 rebate.

"E-bikes are becoming commonplace in BC as a convenient alternative to motor-vehicle trips, but their price can put them out of reach for people," said Rob Fleming, minister of transportation and infrastructure.

"By making rebates available and basing the rebate amount on income, we can make e-bikes and clean transportation more affordable and accessible for everyone."

The Province is investing more than $6 million into these rebates, which will allow thousands to lower the cost of their e-bike purchase.

The program will be administered by the Scrap-It Society, but there is no need to scrap a car to access it.

Michael Koski, executive director of the BC Cycling Coalition, says e-bikes add a new dimension to everyday travel, even in rural communities.

"For those struggling with the cost of a car, this funding will provide wider access to a transportation option that is affordable, efficient and eco-friendly,” he explained.

“E-bikes make cycling accessible to a wider range of people, improve personal health and help smaller communities by making more people mobile."
