BC nurse suspended after claiming more than $23K for shifts she didn't work

A British Columbia nurse has been suspended after she falsified timesheets that led to her being wrongly paid more than $23,000.

Kennedy Baker, a licensed practical nurse, has had her registration shelved for six months by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Baker, who is from Victoria, forged the name and signature of an authorizing nurse on some of her timesheets, according to a consent agreement published this week.

“In so doing, the registrant was paid approximately $23,262.00 for hours that they did not work,” a summary of that agreement explains.

The BCCNM told NowMedia that it cannot reveal whether the nurse has paid back the money.

The timesheets were submitted between September and December 2022, the BCCNM said.

Baker has now agreed with the college to a public reprimand and “remedial education” on professional responsibility and ethics.

That’s alongside the six-month suspension of her licence.

The BCCNM said its Inquiry Committee is “satisfied that the terms will protect the public.​​”
