BC surpasses 200,000 total cases of COVID-19

British Columbia is reporting 715 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 200,249 cases in the province. There are currently 4,965 active cases of COVID-19.

This is where the new/active cases are coming from in each region:

  • Fraser Health: 285 new cases (1,971 active)

  • Northern Health: 172 new cases (937 active)

  • Interior Health: 137 new cases (808 active)

  • Island Health: 61 new cases (504 active)

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 60 new cases (686 active)

  • No new cases of a people who reside outside of Canada (59 active)


There are currently 377 people in hospital with COVID-19, and 136 of those individuals are in intensive care.

In the past 24 hours, four new deaths have been reported in Northern Health. There have now been 2,096 COVID-19 deaths in the province.


Two additional COVID-19 outbreaks have been discovered at healthcare facilities across BC, bringing the total number of active outbreaks to 26.

  • Fraser Health: Willingdon Care Centre, Westminster House, Magnolia Gardens, Manoah Manor, Cherington Place, West Shore Laylum, Queens Park Care Centre, Heritage Village, Mission Memorial Hospital, Sunset Manor, Evergreen Manor, Menno Terrace West, The Emerald at Elim Village, Swedish Assisted Living Residence

  • Interior Health: Cottonwoods Care Centre, Overlander, Village by the Station, Haven Hill Retirement Centre, Deni House

  • Northern Health: Wrinch Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of Northern BC, GR Baker Memorial Hospital, Bulkley Valley District Hospital

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: Amica Lions Gate, Cooper Place

  • Island Health: Tofino General Hospital

In the past week (Oct. 13-19) this is how cases broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 2,561 (58.9%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 325 (7.5%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 1,465 (33.7%)

Over the past two weeks (Oct. 6-19) this is how cases hospitalized broke down from unvaccinated to vaccinated:

  • Not vaccinated: 314 (70.6%)

  • Partially vaccinated: 25 (5.6%)

  • Fully vaccinated: 106 (23.8%)


Since December, the province has administered 8,103,896 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of the eligible people 12 and older in BC, 89.4% (4,141,865) have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 83.8% (3,883,585) have received their second dose.

From the eligible adults in BC, 89.8% (3,884,354) have received their first dose and 84.4% (3,652,493) received their second dose.
