Person 'seriously injured' in backcountry refused to call BC Search and Rescue over fears it cost money

BC Search and Rescue teams have issued a reminder that they do not charge for their services.

It comes after a person was seriously injured in the backcountry but did not call for help.

They thought the SAR teams would charge for their services.

“BC Search and Rescue is completely free, we are volunteers who are available 365 days a year 24 hours a day,” South Columbia SAR explained.

“Some think of us as first responders and categorize us with police, fire and ambulance services, however we are not paid when we provide our services.

“We are all highly skilled and certified in technical rescue and advanced medical.”

They added: “Don’t delay – call us when you need us!

No further details were released about the injured person."
