UPDATE: BC Amber Alert deactivated after child safely located

(Update: Dec. 9, 2023 @ 2:30 pm): -With the help of the public, an Amber Alert issued by the Surrey RCMP earlier today was quickly deactivated after the child was located safely.

“As a result of tips from the public following the issued Amber Alert, police were able to locate the suspect and child in Chilliwack, BC,” said Cpl. Vanessa Munn, Surrey RCMP.

Surrey RCMP responded to a call around 6 am on Saturday.

As part of the investigation, police were speaking to a man in a vehicle with a two-month-old infant before the man “unexpectedly” fled the area.

Officers then observed the vehicle just before 11 am and attempted to pull it over, but the vehicle fled from police.

“Through investigation, police obtained further information which led them to believe that the infant was in imminent danger and therefore an Amber Alert was issued at 12:27 pm,” added Munn.

Just before 12:45 pm, Chilliwack RCMP received a tip that ultimately led to the safe recovery of the child.

The male suspect was taken into custody and is being held pending further investigation.

“The Amber Alert worked exactly how it was designed to work,” said Munn.

“Police immediately began receiving tips and that is what led us to be able to quickly and safely locate the infant.”
