DriveBC warns of major delays on Hwy 1 east of Revelstoke

A travel advisory is in place through the Glacier Park on Highway 1.

DriveBC says poor driving conditions between the Rogers Pass Summit and Golden are causing major delays Wednesday afternoon.

Compact snow, slushy withs slippery sections and fog are listed as reasons for the congestion that is slowing traffic.

“Travellers should consider using alternate routes or delaying their trip,” says DriveBC on X.

Several replies to the post say some people have been waiting in traffic for over three hours.

One person said it took them seven hours to drive from Salmon Arm to where they are stuck on the highway and they are still about 60 kilometres from Golden. That was as of 1:44 pm.

DriveBC’s highway cameras show a long line in the eastbound lanes, but the westbound lanes seem empty through Rogers Pass.

There are currently no weather alerts in place for the Trans-Canada Highway.

However, there is a snowfall warning in place for a large area near the BC-Alberta border, just east of Field, BC.

Highway 1 was closed for about seven hours on Tuesday as crews did avalanche control work after a winter storm warning brought between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow on Tuesday.
