UPDATE: Last of 4 Hwy 97 closures near Summerland set for today

(UPDATE: Feb. 26 @ 5:40 am): The last of four Hwy 97 closures will take place today between 11 am and 12:30 pm.

Workers have been busy with a marathon four-day blasting session north of Summerland, lasting from Friday to Monday.

(Original story: Feb. 22 @ 6:30 am): Hwy 97 is set to be closed north of Summerland for four consecutive days starting Friday.

No traffic will be permitted through the road between 11 am and 12:30 pm on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Feb. 23–26).

åThe closures will be between Callan Road and Okanagan Lake Provincial Park.

Drivers have also been warned to expect additional 15-minute closures outside of the planned 90-minute closures.

The road needs to be closed so workers can blast the mass of earth at the site of the rockslide that occurred on the highway in August.

No date has been provided for when the blasting will conclude, but the BC government told KelownaNow last year that it expected the work would be required throughout most of the winter.
