The highway was closed for multiple hours this morning after a serious crash.

(Original story: 6:20 am) - An early morning crash has closed the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1).

It’s shut down west of Salmon Arm in Tappen, according to DriveBC.

Emergency crews are on scene, but there’s no estimated time for the highway to reopen.

A detour is available via Hwy 97 and drivers coming from the east should use Hwy 97A from Sicamous to get there, while those heading east from Kamloops should turn onto Hwy 97 at Monte Creek.

The next update is expected at 7:30 am.

NowMedia will update this story when more information is made available.
