UBCO hosting free talk on native bees – and how to help conserve them

UBC Okanagan is hosting a free talk on bees.

If you’ve ever wondered how important the hardworking insects are to the ecosystem, the lecture from Sheila Colla promises to explain all.

She is visiting the Okanagan from York University.

Her talk will look at native bee diversity in the area and also the benefits they provide for the environment.

Conservation of bees will also be addressed by Colla, including what can be done on an individual level to help preserve our pollinators.

She will also meet with Professor Nancy Holmes from UBCO, who runs the Border Free Bees project, and Assistant Professor Adam Ford from UBC, who runs UBCO’s Wildlife Restoration Ecology Lab.

The talk, which will be held on Tuesday, is free.

It starts at 6 p.m. in room ASC 130 in the Arts and Sciences Building.
