A weapons complaint led to a lockdown at a Vernon high school and an 18-year-old in handcuffs Thursday afternoon.
Around 12:40 pm, RCMP officers were called to the school after staff reportedly received information that a person in the parking lot might have been in possession of a firearm.
Witnesses reported that the person had left in a vehicle and the hold and secure was ordered to ensure safety of students and staff.
A suspect was quickly identified and RCMP officers arrested the person without incident at another location.

“From our investigation, there has not been any indication there was any direct threat to the safety of the school,” says Cst. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.
“However, in response to any potential dangers, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP and School District 22 will take any and all necessary action to ensure the safety of our students and schools.”
Terleski says the police continue to work with the school district as part of the investigation.
He also thanked the school community for their patience and cooperation as the investigation continues.
No additional information is expected to be released at this time, Terleski adds.
