CVSE officer reconnects with the 5 dogs she saved from a B.C. wildfire

Five dogs saved from a wildfire in the Cariboo area back in July recently got the chance to see their hero again.

Kirsten Konge, a Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) officer working, was checking on the houses of evacuated residents when she found the dogs.

She made the decision to bring the dogs back to her home in Williams Lake, where she took care of them until they could find a better place for the dogs to board.

Eventually, evacuation orders were lifted and the dogs were reunited back with their family at home.

Konge was able to pay the dogs and their family a visit recently and it was clear that the dogs hadn’t forgotten about her.

“Hershi, Toby, Tidbit, Tippy and Daiszi. I finally learned the names of the dogs that we rescued over a month ago,” said Konge. “When I went out to their home recently I was greeted warmly by dogs and humans alike.”

Konge said the owners were overwhelmed by how many people cared and put the effort in to make sure the dogs were rescued.

She had just 10 minutes notice to leave her home and could only take her children, a smaller dog, four cats and parrot.

“As a dog mom, I feel her pain at having to make such a tough decision and was happy that I was able to help out,” said Konge.

The Hanceville-Riske Creek wildfire, which caused the dog's family to evacuate, is now finally 100% contained.
