**Coverage of the Clifton wildfire will continue at this link on Saturday.**
(UPDATE: Aug. 18 @ 10:50 pm) - The evacuation alert has expanded, according to the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations map.
Information regarding the addresses of the affected properties in the newly highlighted area has yet to be released, but the evacuation alert now extends east to Highway 97.
There have also been reports of a new spot fire on the hill near Clifton, but few details are known at this time.
(Update: Aug. 18, 2023 @7:40 pm): Another round of evacuation orders have been issued in Kelowna this evening.
Properties off Clifton near Rio Drive east to Upper Canyon are now being told to leave immediately:
People are advised to follow directions from emergency personnel as public safety and the protection of critical infrastructure are the primary concerns at this time.

(UPDATE Aug. 18 @ 3:42 pm) - Knox Mountain Park and Dilworth Mountain Park are now closed to the public due to proximity to the wildfires.
(UPDATE: Aug. 18 @ 3:25 pm) - BC Transit and Transdev Canada are supporting the evacuation of approximately 400 people from the UBCO campus.
Service to the university is now suspended indefinitely and the exchange is closed.
“We anticipate that the current conditions will continue impacting transit service throughout the Kelowna Regional Transit System and we encourage customers to check NextRide for real time updates,” said BC Transit.
“Our thoughts are with all those being impacted by this event and we appreciated the patience of our customers during this challenging time.”
(UPDATE: Aug. 18 @ 3 pm) - The evacuation alert area has been expanded due to the Clifton wildfire.
Properties in the Glenmore area west of Glenmore Road and north of High Road, Mountain Avenue and Royal View Drive are now under evacuation alert.
This includes properties in Poplar Point.
An evacuation alert requires residents in these properties to be ready to go at a moment’s notice. Be prepared with supplies to be able to sustain for 72 hours.

(UPDATE: Aug. 18 @ 1:45 pm) - All properties west of Glenmore Road North between Union Road and John Hindle Drive have been placed under evacuation order.

Anyone who is on campus is advised to leave immediately, and anyone who does not have access to transportation should head to H Lot.
It is unclear what this means for the firefighters who have been staying at UBCO during response efforts.

(UPDATE: Aug. 18 @ 1:06 pm) - The evacuation order has been expanded to include properties in the Quail Ridge area.
All residents in properties accessed off Quail Ridge Boulevard, including the Quail Ridge Golf Club, are advised to leave immediately.
(Original story: Aug. 18 @ 12:50 pm) - Properties in the Glenmore Road area have been placed under an evacuation order as crews respond to the Clifton and McKinley wildfires in Kelowna, and the Glenmore Landfill has closed to all non-commercial traffic while the flames burn at the corner of John Hindle Drive and Glenmore Road North.
Residents west of Glenmore Road North, located north of the John Hindle Drive intersection up to McKinley Rd (with specific additions), should leave their properties immediately.

Traffic to the Glenmore Landfill can contribute to congestion on Glenmore Drive, which is and will continue to be a critical thoroughfare for firefighters traveling to and from the site of the Clifton and McKinley wildfires.
Residents are asked to avoid the area to help clear the way for emergency crews, and they are advised that waste collection services could be delayed in the coming days as the fires have affected collection capacity.
It is advised that residents should put their carts onto the street on their scheduled days, but should return them to their property if the waste is not collected by 7 pm.
Residents should expect to store their waste for days or even weeks should the situation worsen.
