UPDATE: Wildfire near Lytton now under control

(Update: March 25 @ 10:17 am): Firefighters say they now have a wildfire north of Lytton under control.

The blaze, named the Alkaki Road Wildfire, was reported on March 23 to be 150 hectares in size.

But thanks to more accurate mapping, the BC Wildfire Service said it is now estimated to be 66 hectares.

There are five personnel at the scene today.

"The fire has received sufficient suppression to ensure no further spread of the fire," the service explained.

(Original story: March 23 @ 12:20 pm): A wildfire is burning out of control near Lytton, firefighters have said.

BC Wildfire Service said the fire, which is about 150 hectares in size, is just north of Lytton.

It is between Hwy 12 and Hwy 1.

The service added: “Overnight precipitation in the area will help the 11 #BCWildfire personnel who are continuing response efforts on site today.

“Trails and roads are acting as natural containment lines and crews are working to establish more containment lines on site today.”
