Canucks owner apologizes to fans in series of 15 tweets

Francesco Aquilini wasn’t on hand for the Canucks season-ending media availability on Monday, but he still made sure his voice was heard.

Despite only tweeting 90 times since joining Twitter in 2013, Aquilini took to the social media platform to deliver a series of tweets to Canucks fans.

“First of all, I want to thank all our loyal Canucks fans,” he wrote. “I also want to personally apologize to you, because I understand how disappointed you are with how the season went.”

“I know you’re disappointed, but, believe me, nobody is more disappointed than me!”

Acquilini referred to injuries and a lack of depth as reasons for Vancouver’s struggles this season, but promised better results as the team continued to build depth and handle adversity.

He talked about how it will be different without the Sedin twins next season, but promised a younger, well-coached and well-managed team.

“Look at Colorado and New Jersey this year, making the playoffs,” he said. “Look at Arizona in the second half of the season. Look at our last 10 games.”

“Our goal is to be a perpetual contender. That journey starts right now. This city deserves another run at the Stanley Cup.”
