One of the all-time greats in Kelowna Rockets franchise history will be enshrined into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame (HHOF) this summer.
Shea Weber has been named as a member of the BC HHOF’s class of 2024, along with Carey Price, Tom Kowal, Scott Bradley and the 2010 Fort St. John Flyers.
“It’s really a big honour being a BC boy in a small town of Sicamous,” the 38-year-old said. “I was lucky to play my whole minor hockey and junior career in BC and to get this call definitely means a lot.”
Weber wasn’t drafted into the Western Hockey League, but his career took off in a major way after he was listed by the Rockets and joined the team full time during the 2002-03 season.
In 244 career games with the club, he scored 39 goals and added 91 assists for 130 career points to go along with 455 penalty minutes and a +80 rating.
He was a member of the Rockets teams that won the 2003 and 2004 WHL championships, as well as the 2004 Memorial Cup on home ice.
Weber was selected by the Nashville Predators in the second round of the 2003 draft and went on to have an outstanding 16-year career with the Preds and Montreal Canadiens, serving as captain for both teams.
Internationally, Weber won gold at the World Junior Championships in 2005, the IIHF World Championships in 2007 and the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014.
