Spurs of the Moment: 2014 NBA Champions

The San Antonio Spurs made short work of exacting their revenge over the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals, finishing off the defending champions in just five games to win their fifth Championship.

The Spurs didn’t just beat the Heat in an unexpected , lopsided final series, they demolished them. Yes, Miami did manage to squeak out a win in Game 2, but they took that victory narrowly, but only 2 points. In the four games that the Spurs extinguished the heat, what is arguably the best team in Spurs history, did so by at least fifteen points in each of the four victories.

The better and younger San Antonio team also proved that they are the much deeper team as well. The Spurs bench outscored Miami’s 39-6 through the first three quarters.

Miami came out firing in the first quarter, jumping out to a huge 22-6 lead, but as they have done all series long, the Spurs handily dismantled the Heat from then on. During an 18-minute span between the second and third quarters, Miami scored a mere 13 points as they watched their lead fade away.

Lebron James acted as a one man team in Game 5, while Dwayne Wade struggled on both ends and Chris Bosh was a ghost and Ray Allen couldn’t hit an open shot to save his life, or in this case, the series.

The Spurs are proving themselves as one of the greatest dynasties in the history of sports. The final result was not surprising, especially since the Spurs vowed revenge on the Heat after last year’s final when Miami took the Championship over the Spurs in Game 7, but San Antonio’s dominance over the Heat, was a little shocking.

San Antonio was the best team in the NBA for the entire season, and they showed exactly why in one of the most dominating playoff performances the league has ever seen.
