Canadian underdog Corey Conners wins 1st PGA tour title

Corey Conners has claimed his first career PGA tour victory at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, TX, on Sunday

Conners claimed the victory and celebrated with a big hug for his caddie and his wife immediately after.

The Ontario-native is the first player since 2010 to progress from the Monday qualifier to win the tour.

Conners’ final putt had the Canadian finish the tournament with a score of -20 – two under second-place Charley Hoffman – and the only person on the course more excited than Conners was his wife who was visibly amped on his performance.

The victory gives the 27-year-old a spot in the Master invitational tournament in Augusta, GA, which will begin on Thursday.

Additionally, he has earned 500 FedExCup points, and a full exemption through the 2020 and 2021 season.
