Ways To Wear: Men’s Shirts

My current fashion obsession is men’s shirts. They’re easy to wear both dressed up and casually, they’re roomier for those days when you don’t want to put everything on display, and they often fit a lot better than women’s shirts do. There’s something surprisingly sexy and feminine about a woman wearing a man’s shirt. They’re also one of the easiest additions you can make to your closet, just borrow from you main man or head to a thrift store where there’s a seemingly endless supply of them. Here are a few ways I like to wear men’s shirts:

The Short Sleeved Button Up

A short sleeved button up looks great paired simply with skinny jeans for a casual or kind of preppy look. If you want to try to make it look a little more feminine, try cuffing the sleeves. It will make the shirt feel a less boxy.

The Dress Shirt

A men’s dress shirt looks great paired with a pencil, flared, mini, midi or any other kind of skirt for a more dressed up look. The baggier silhouette is a little unexpected and becomes more interesting than a woman’s blouse would be.

The T-Shirt

Men’s t-shirts are great for transforming! Try cutting off the sleeves to turn it into a loose tank top, or cropping it and tying it to alter the length. The possibilities are endless! And you don’t have to worry about frayed edges with cotton.

Other great ways to wear men’s shirts:

  • An oversized dress shirt makes a great dress or tunic over leggings. You can experiment with belting it, or alter it so it hugs a little closer to the body but still has lots of length. This works great with men’s t-shirts and sweaters as well!

  • Wear an oversized dress shirt backwards. It sounds a little strange, but if you get the right fit it looks like a cool tunic with button detailing on the back.

  • Cut or tie a button up shirt to get a different kind of silhouette. This works great as a layering piece, or on its owned if you like a cropped fit.

  • As a layering piece – a men’s button up looks great worn open overtop of your favorite t-shirt, or a men’s t-shirt layered on top of your favorite button up looks great too.
