Cake for Breakfast has opened a retail shop at 901 Ellis Street, just down from the Ellis Street Market. Owned and operated by long-time baker Kayla Bjornson and her husband Red Seal Chef Blake Bjornson, Cake for Breakfast was established in 2021, operating solely as an online customer and wedding cake shop. The new storefront is open in December on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for cake slices, treats and specialty coffee, serving the special blend coffee roasted by The Local Chemist Coffee Roasters. The rest of the week, they still operate their online cake shop with custom and wedding cakes that they are famous for at www.cakeforbreakfast.ca. The storefront has a quaint, bright, inviting atmosphere with several tables for you to enjoy your coffee and treats. Cake for Breakfast’s most popular baked items are the salted caramel walnut bars and the red velvet raspberry cake that is made with local raspberries. Kayla and Blake sent me home with the red velvet raspberry cake, salted caramel walnut bars and gluten free walnut banana bread with espresso butter frosting. All were incredible. Some of the other items offered are matcha pistachio raspberry crispies, candy cookies, caramel cornflake brownies, pumpkin spice snack cake (gf), strawberry cheesecake (gf), and chocolate peanut butter pie. Just in time for the holiday season and perfect gift is their popular cookie boxes with a mixture of classic cookies, bars, and fun new takes. You can purchase the boxes in several sizes. The Pandosy Neighbourhood Association is auctioning a stunning mural from the 2022 Imagine Pandosy Art Festival created by local artist Jomae and sponsored by Westcorp. Dr. Paul Martin has joined Okanagan College as the Dean of Teaching and Learning Innovations overseeing academic learning resources and OC Library Services, as of January 6/2025. Dr. Martin comes to OC from his current position as the Director, Curriculum Development and Delivery, Open Learning at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops. In 2013, Dr. Martin won the Gabrielle Roy Prize for his book, Sanctioned Ignorance: the politics of knowledge production and the teaching of the literatures of Canada (University of Alberta Press 2014).

The Downtown Rotary Club of Kelowna has made a huge donation of $50,000.00 to Metro Community. The donation will fund a major expansion of Metro’s Hygiene Program. The program offers, to the unhoused community at no cost, showers, laundry service, ID provision, wound care, and case work. Since Metro began this program in 2021, more than 1,250 people have accessed these services. After the renovation, Metro will be able to double the showers and laundry capacity, which will offer 1,000 showers per month and wash 540 loads of laundry per month. Joel Feddersen is the executive director of Metro and Bruce Wilson is on the donation committee of Downtown Rotary.
