K-HUB the Okanagan’s first Makerspace Business Incubator will be on deck during the 34th annual Career Fair at Okanagan College on November 1st. The business is looking for people with ideas that could lead into creating, innovating and manufacturing new products.
“We are a one-stop-shop for individuals with business and product ideas and we are really looking forward to connecting with the community at the College’s Career Fair this weekend,” said Lisa Jeffrey, Assistant Executive Director at K-HUB. “The concept of a Makerspace is fairly new to this area and we are one of the first of our kind to spring up in B.C. so we want to let people know what we do, what we can offer and how they can utilize our space and expertise to help launch their ideas in a real way.”
The business is a 4,500 square-foot space that allows people to rent the area to test and develop ideas and prototypes. The space will include manufacturing equipment like woodworking tools, 3-D printers and even CNC machines.
Jeffrey said they’re happy to be a part of the career fair. “It will provide us with access to a valuable and important part of our client base – students, instructors and members of the community. We’re looking forward to collaborating with them and telling them about who we are and how we can help launch their ideas. It’s also a great opportunity for us to listen and understand what the needs of our Maker community are.”
K-HUB is also planning to hold workshops and business services when they officially open their doors in January in Kelowna. This will range from marketing to branding and will help innovators with the whole process of creating to delivering the product.
More than 30 exhibitors will be connecting with Okanagan College students and the public during the career fair. During the career fair there will also be campus tours for hopeful students.
The fair starts at 10:30 a.m., and will run until 3:00 p.m.
