A wildfire is currently burning just above Bear Creek Campground on Westside Road.
Westside Road is closed between Bear Creek Road and Pine Point subdivision.
There has been an emergency evacuation order declared. The Evacuation Order affects approximately 156 properties and remains in place for the Bear Creek Provincial Park campground, Trader’s Cove subdivision, and properties along Bear Creek Road north of the Parkinson Road intersection including Dougmac, Rose Valley and Petterson Roads.
Pine Point subdivision is on Evacuation Alert. Those residents should be prepared to leave on short notice.
Approximately 60 people have registered with the Emergency Support reception centre located at the Lions Hall, 2466 Main Street in West Kelowna. The centre will close at 3:00 am and it’s expected to reopen at 9:00 am.
Structural fire crews from West Kelowna, Peachland, Wilson’s Landing, North Westside Fire Rescue and firefighters from the BC Wildfire Service are monitoring and patrolling the Bear Creek wildfire for the rest of night.
