Crews will begin construction work on the Bertram Active Transportation Corridor (ATC) this coming week.
While the new downtown Kelowna ATC will range from the new Bertram overpass to Cawston Avenue, it will be done in sections to avoid too many headaches for motorists and cyclists.

The first section of Bertram Street to be tackled will be the two-block stretch between Leon and Bernard avenues.
It will include a two-way bike path on the east side of Bertram, an “all-way stop” at the Lawrence intersection and a diagonal crossing at the Bernard intersection.
That stretch of Bertram will be closed for around four weeks to accommodate construction, then crews will move north through the corridor all the way to Cawston.

“Each block will be completed before work continues to the next section to help minimize impacts to the downtown area,” a City release explained.
According to the City, the removal of some “unhealthy or end-of-life trees" will be required, but crews will replant trees removed due to construction at a 2:1 ratio.
Construction on the entire Bertram ATC between Leon and Cawston is expected to be completed by the fall.
