A bizarre incident resulted in a brief closure of the Bennett Bridge late this morning.
Minutes before noon, the West Kelowna RCMP was alerted about a vehicle stopped in the westbound lanes of the bridge.
According to Cst. Ash Puri, the driver had stopped, exited the vehicle and jumped into Okanagan Lake.

Mounties from both Kelowna and West Kelowna responded to the situation immediately and halted traffic on the bridge.
“The individual was recovered from the water by the RCMP boat and transported by police to Kelowna General Hospital,” Puri told KelownaNow.
Once the situation in the water was resolved, the RCMP arranged for the removal of the vehicle from the bridge and traffic flow slowly returned to normal.
This is the second incident over the past week involving a jumper on the Bennett Bridge, as a report on Friday night led to a search of the lake before it was determined that he never entered the water.
