New aquatic playground to open at H2O pool this weekend

An exciting new era of fun is set to begin at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre this weekend.

Saturday will mark opening day for the new state-of-the-art playground in the water park at the H2O pool.

The YMCA of Southern Interior BC promises it will create “an exciting and engaging experience for children and families across the community.”

The previous water park play structure was removed last year after serving the community for 15 years, and the new feature is considered a “major enhancement” to H2O’s aquatic offerings.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome families back to the Water Park with this new play structure,” says H2O centre manager Nick Mansfield.

“The previous structure created years of memorable experiences for our community, and this new addition builds on that legacy with more interactive elements and more space for children to play, explore and have fun in the water.”

The new play structure, designed and engineered by MAKR, is significantly larger and more dynamic than its predecessor.

It features a trio of water slides, interactive water fountains and a vibrant tropical theme complete with palm trees, coral and playful fish designs.

“This new play structure reflects our commitment to creating inclusive, engaging spaces where children can stay active and families can connect,” notes Robyn Moore, vice president of health, fitness and aquatics at the local Y.

“By investing in high-quality aquatic infrastructure like this, we’re helping children build confidence in the water.”

The new play structure was made possible through City of Kelowna funding and the YMCA operates H2O on behalf of the City.

Families can drop in to use the new amenity, but they can also get access through a YMCA membership that includes access to the pool, fitness centre and unlimited group fitness classes.

Y members can also get free child minding while they work out, as well as swim lessons for all ages included in the cost of membership.
