Kelowna’s own Centre for the Arts and Technology (CAT) will play host to one of Canada's most influential sports photographers, Reuben Krabbe.
From photographing skiers during a solar eclipse in Svalbard, Norway, to conquering BC’s mountain bike trails, Krabbe’s unique photographic eye has taken him on some incredible adventures — and you will have the chance to learn from him!
On Tuesday, Aug. 6, Krabbe will be at CAT to host workshops with attending photography and film students, in addition to taking the time to speak and showcase his work to alumni and lucky members of the community.
“He is probably in the top 15 most important sports photographers in the world right now, he does some really crazy work,” said Grant Robinson, an instructor at CAT.
“He works in some of the most challenging conditions with very seasonal clients so he is really well versed in how to generate work as a sports photographer — it will be a great opportunity for people with that kind of interest,” added Robinson.
According to Krabbe’s website from a young age he had always longed for the mountains, and once he was old enough he moved from Calgary to head for British Columbia, now calling Whistler home.
His accolades are impressive, having had his work shown in National Geographic Adventure and Ski Magazine as well as working with large commercial clients such as Tourism BC, MEC and Salomon Skis.
The film “Eclipse” which followed him on his journey to Norway took home the gold for best snow sport film at the 2015 Banff Mountain Film Festival.
While the public is unable to join in on the workshops, there are still a limited amount of available seats for his lecture which will run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. next Tuesday at CAT inside the Landmark three building.
Admission is free but Robinson does ask that you pre-register by sending an email to ckiesewetter@digitalartschool.com to secure your spot.
