An 18-year-old man died in what police are calling a “tragic accident” at a BC ski resort.
On Thursday evening, West Vancouver Police confirmed the fatality at Cypress Mountain Resort.
The Jan. 15 statement did not provide much information but did say victim services had been mobilized for family, witnesses and the public.
On Friday morning, the police provided a bit more information.

Emergency services were called just before 7:30 pm after reports of someone in medical distress after falling from a chairlift.
Sadly, the 18-year-old man from Maple Ridge was pronounced dead at the scene.
“All available evidence points to this being a tragic accident,” said Suzanne Birch, spokesperson for the West Vancouver Police Department.
“There are no obvious indications of technical or mechanical issues with the chairlift. As the death appears to be non-suspicious, the investigation is now with the Coroner’s Office.”
The West Vancouver Police extended their condolences to the family and friends of the young man.
They also encouraged anyone who witnessed the tragic accident to reach out for support by calling the department at (604) 925-7468 to be connected with victim services.
