UPDATE: Lucas Singer-Kraus found in Bear Creek area, no criminality suspected

(UPDATE: Feb. 12 @ 11 am): The RCMP has confirmed the death of Lucas Singer-Kraus

They said he was found on Saturday in the Bear Creek area.

No criminality is suspected in his death.

The BC Coroners Service identified Singer-Kraus, police explained, and will now take over the investigation.

"The West Kelowna RCMP sends our condolences to the family and thanks the several members of the public for their assistance in trying to locate Mr. Singer-Kraus," the RCMP said in an update released this morning.

(Original story: Feb. 12 @ 6:15 am): The family of Lucas Singer-Kraus, who went missing on Jan. 31, has spoken of the “devastating news” of his death.

Though the RCMP has not confirmed the discovery of the 23-year-old’s remains, his family posted on social media on the weekend to make the sad announcement.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue has also offered its condolences to the family, adding that there had been a “heartbreaking outcome” in the search for Singer-Kraus.

Writing on a fundraising page that has already attracted over $21,000 in donations, a spokesperson for the family expressed “heartfelt gratitude” for the “overwhelming support and generosity during this challenging time.”

“Your contributions, messages of comfort, and unwavering support have meant the world to us,” the spokesperson said.

“With heavy hearts, we must share the devastating news that Lucas has been found. As we navigate this unimaginable loss, we are faced with the daunting task of arranging for funeral costs, providing therapy for our family’s healing, and coping with the loss of wages as we take the time to grieve.”

The spokesperson said that the family would prefer a donation to the fundraiser rather than flowers or meals.

In a Facebook group dedicated to the memory of Singer-Kraus, the same spokesperson said the family has requested privacy “during this incredibly difficult time.”

“We extend our sincerest gratitude to everyone who dedicated their time, energy, donations, and volunteering in the search for Lucas,” the spokesperson wrote.

“Your support and efforts did not go unnoticed, and the family is immensely grateful for your compassion and kindness.

“At this time, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

Any posters of Singer-Kraus should be removed “as soon as possible,” the family representative explained.

In an earlier post, people that knew Singer-Kraus were invited to share their memories of the West Kelowna man, prompting a series of tributes.
