Trail: Lochview Trail
Trail Distance: 3 kilometres
Trail Difficulty: Moderate-Difficult
This trail is located in Kelowna. Head north on Clifton Road and turn left on Lochview Road. The trailhead is on the left. The parking area is small. Please respect and obey the private property signs.
The Lochview trail offers stunning views of Okanagan Lake and is a great little workout!
From the trailhead, we followed the stairs down to a wide gravel path, switchbacking down the steep hill. Soon the path got narrow and ran parallel to the lake, giving great views up and down Okanagan Lake!
As we continued on, working our way up and down with a good amount of wooden steps to climb, the views were remarkable! Not to mention the eye candy of the fancy houses in Sheerwater Estates. The trail works its way between and below the stunning houses and above the lake, giving the eyes plenty to look at! That being said, it is important to stick to the trails and respect the private property in the area.
Along the way, we found a set of wooden stairs leading down to a beautiful little beach access. Not too far after, the view of the marvelous hidden cove at Paul's Tomb was in sight and so were the last of the stairs!
This public, dog-friendly beach is a fantastic gem here in Kelowna, and is also accessible from the popular Paul's Tomb hike from Knox Mountain Park.
Paul's Tomb was named after the Paul family. In 1912, they had a summer home built on the flat area above the beach access. Rembler Paul wanted to leave a tribute to his family in the form of a tomb, so it was built in 1910 and is where he and his wife, Elizabeth, were laid to rest. Today, only the top of this large Tomb is visible.
After checking out the tomb area and the beach, we headed back the way we came. Going back, the ups and downs were a little more difficult than on the way in.
The Lochview trail may be more difficult than the Paul's Tomb Trail, but offers one of the most stunning views of the Okanagan Lake and is way less traveled!
Always be mindful of your surroundings, pack out what you pack in, stick to the trails and Happy Exploring!
