MTL Montreal Food (formerly Michel’s Montreal Smoked Meat) at #101-1851 Kirschner Road has new owners. Owned by partners, well-known Chef Mathew Morazain and Bernie Mahapatra, the restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. serving both breakfast and lunch Mondays to Fridays, brunch on Saturdays starting at 10 a.m. and Mother’s Day brunch on May 7 and 8. Mathew calls his new venture a classic scratch diner. Wine and craft beers are available and they have a lovely patio. All menu items are house-made from scratch. I tried the MTL smoked meat sandwich and it was delicious. Other menu items include many other sandwiches, poutine, Tourtiere, mac n’ cheese, falafel wrap, salads and soup. Jessie and Naz Lal are the new agency owners/operators of Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty Rent-A-Car dealerships which have opened on May 1. The new business is located at 5505 Airport Way in the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel directly across from the Kelowna Airport. Having the three car rental dealership together in one location and partnering with The Sheraton Hotel is a new pilot project with Hertz Rent-A-Car. The board of directors of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club has named the Junior Bursary Program in Michael Darnbrough’s memory. Over the years, Michael was very involved and passionate about the junior development program at the club. His dedication was demonstrated through his many years of volunteering as the KGCC Junior Development Director and also as a Director with the BC Golf Association, coach and mentor of the KSS High School golf team and the UBCO boys and girls golf teams. The Kelowna Golf and Country Club, Michael R. Bursary Program is comprised of two awarded bursaries given out each season to junior members that are graduating from secondary school. A trophy will remain on display in the club which will recognize each of the awarded annual bursary recipients.

The luxury pens can be purchased by itself or with a handcrafted Bermuda Cedar, Canal Zapatero, Canadian Maple or Walnut pen box with stainless steel accents. The mechanical pens gear shift mechanism is combined with carbon fibre to give a unique look. Steampunk bolt action is combined with carbon fibre and authentic Swiss watch parts. With a new strategic plan in place, Jan Schulz is the new executive director of Inn for the Cold (IFTC) Kelowna. The board felt IFTC was ready to hire their first-ever permanent executive director to lead the organization. The winners of the Pandosy Village Business Association Spring Wine Fest Window Decorating Contest, sponsored by the Kelowna Fab 5 Wineries were The Wardrobe Boutique (Most Creative), Serendipity Clothing Company (Most Attractive) and Venus Eye Boutique (Most Effective Promotion of the Kelowna Fab 5 Wineries). Other merchants who decorated their shops and deserved mention were Earthly Creations, The Book Bin, Bella Clothing Boutique, Frakas, Aldila Boutique and Wink I Wear Optical Boutique. I was delighted to be a judge along with MLA Steven Thomson and Aura Rose of House of Rose Winery. All the shops did great window displays and judging was difficult. Call 250-860-2251.
Shauna Lockhart purchased Happily Holistic Natural Heath & Wellness Care Center last year. She has now moved it from the Joe Rich area into Rutland at 433 Hwy 33 W. They offer many services from specialized kinesiology, body talk, raynor and relaxation massage, body management, European lymphatic drains and foot detox. Happily Holistic has cooking workshops which target teaching people how to eat healthy, including how to make your own sauerkraut, raw desserts, and Kombucha. The classes include as much organic products as possible, showing people that organic foods are not different and can be cost effective as well when shown how to utilize them. Their yoga classes are developed on a basis of an eight week session for each set. Sandhill Winery at 1125 Richter Street has a new estate manager. Patricia Leslie was formerly, for the past six years, with Whistler Sport Legacies, the non-profit organization created by VANOC to take over the operation of Whistler’s three 2010 Olympic Venues (Whistler Athletes’ Centre, Whistler Sliding Centre and Whistler Olympic Park). Chuck Dixon aced his second hole-in-one at Kelowna Springs, 140 yards (8 Iron). This one cost him a fraction of his first hole-in-one that happened during a tournament attended by fellows who really liked to drink.
