Kelowna MLA part of new BC political party after leaving Conservatives

Just over three months after announcing her departure from the Conservative Party of BC, Tara Armstrong has found a new home in politics.

The Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream MLA is one of two members of a political party in British Columbia called OneBC.

The OneBC website lists Vancouver-Quilchena MLA Dallas Brodie as the party’s other member.

Both Armstrong and Leslie were voted into the legislature as Conservative MLAs last fall, but Brodie was removed from the party in March over comments she made about residential schools.

Armstrong and Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy announced shortly after that they had decided to leave the party as well.

At the time, Armstrong said Rustad made a “cowardly” decision to eject Brodie from the party, adding that it reveals “just how corrupt he has become.”

A petition created just a few days later called on Armstrong to resign as an MLA, but it only accumulated 864 verified signatures.

Two months later, Armstrong found herself in a spat with the Central Okanagan School Board over statements she made on Indigenous sovereignty.

Around 2 pm today, both Armstrong and Brodie shared a video on social media featuring an introductory statement from Brodie, who is listed as the party’s interim leader.

“OneBC is for British Columbians who are proud of their history and aren’t afraid to fight for a prosperous and beautiful future,” she said.

“After nearly a decade of socialist policies, our province is falling apart., and when I realized that none of the other parties had the integrity or courage to make the bold changes we need to survive, I knew it was time to build something new.”
