Arguably the biggest road project of the year in Kelowna is about to get underway.
On Wednesday, crews will shut down Burtch Road between Denver Road and Munson Pond Park to begin construction of the Burtch Road extension project.
The City of Kelowna says the road closure will be in place for around seven months.

The project will create a new 1.6-km section of road between Denver and KLO roads, providing a new option for travel through the Munson Pond Park area.
There was plenty of controversy surrounding the project during the public engagement process last year, with many area residents expressing concerns over the potential environmental impact.
However, the work is going ahead and will create two travel lanes, protected bike lanes, sidewalks, street trees, left-turn lanes, a traffic signal at KLO and a crosswalk to improve access to the Munson Pond trail.
The City promises to “protect the natural area through various mitigation efforts.” Click here to learn more.
Residents are asked to abide by safety personnel instructions, posted construction signage and fencing while work is underway to ensure everyone’s safety in the area.
