Passerbys and beachgoers downtown were treated to a display of teamwork this past Saturday as teams gathered to compete in the annual Kelowna Dragon Boat Festival.

Taking place at Tugboat Bay, the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club and its several teams gathered for a full day of racing while celebrating the club’s 25th anniversary.
The fun-filled day saw mixed and women’s teams compete for first place in their divisions, with a special lion dance drum ceremony held at noon.

After boarding the dragon boats on the beach, the teams paddled out by the Rotary Marsh Park before turning around and setting up at the start line.
At the sound of an airhorn, the teams paddled with all their might toward the bridge, stopping at the finish line near the outermost section of the Waterfront Boardwalk.
The Kelowna Dragon Boat Club was formed in 1999 and became a registered non-profit society in 2003.

The club is open to all skill levels and has a wide age range among its members.
